Factory 02
Taking shape.
Changing shape.
Hello, world.
Read the Guide as Text
Did you know that the Japan Pavilion has another purpose? It’s a factory.
Here, products used within the pavilion are being fashioned from plant-based plastic, some of it made from algae cultivated right here in the Farm Area.
Can you see the robotic arms efficiently 3D-printing objects?
What they are creating is a stool—crafted from a special material that blends algae with bioplastic.
How would the world change if more products were made from algae?
Many toys and playground equipment are now made from petroleum-based plastic.
By using naturally derived, biodegradable plastic in its place, we can reduce both carbon emissions from production and the environmental impact of disposal.
As the applications of this material expand, its functionality and practicality will also evolve.
What if everyday items were made from algae?
Considering these possibilities is a crucial step toward building a sustainable, circular society.
Finished stools are placed throughout the Japan Pavilion.
Should you spot one, take a seat and enjoy a moment of rest.
