Farm 01
An hourglass that watches
the place between lives
Read the Guide as Text
Welcome to the cycle of the Japan Pavilion.
The cycle—an eternal connection, where endings and beginnings repeat endlessly into the future.
Look at the hourglass before you.
The upper half represents an ending as it crumbles under the pull of gravity.
The lower half symbolizes a beginning as it stretches and grows.
These two states exist as equals, constantly shifting, endlessly continuing their cycle.
The hourglass stands as a silent witness to the place between lives.
You will find it welcoming you at each of the three entrances to the Japan Pavilion.
What may appear the same reflects something different.
What may seem different holds the same life within.
This is the Farm Area.
Here, tiny bits of material and energy transform once again to become the building blocks of something new.
Now, take a step forward on your journey through the cycle.
