Plant 02
Life begins
with waste.
Read the Guide as Text
A massive conveyor belt creeps forward, deep into a cavernous space.
Vegetable and fruit peels, straws and cutlery, cardboard packaging—one by one, they are carried into the heart of the Japan Pavilion.
Waste from the entire Expo site is brought here.
Beyond the curve of the belt, you’ll catch a glimpse of the biogas plant.
Inside the Japan Pavilion, the waste is broken down and transformed into energy.
As you lift your gaze, you see a wall, illuminated by moving lights.
Like fireflies or shooting stars, the lights guide you onward.
These lights symbolize the breath of a new life—the moment waste is reborn.
Here in the Japan Pavilion, even waste is life, playing its part in the cycle.
Come and witness the very moment of transformation.
