Take a peek through the window at your feet and watch
as colourful BE@RBRICKS spring to life!
These figures come from the biogas plant which breaks down food waste from throughout the Expo site every day.
Each of the five BE@RBRICKS represents something different: water, heat, electricity, carbon dioxide, and nutrients such as nitrogen.
These are all materials and forms of energy produced by microorganisms as they decompose food waste.
Do you remember?
At the entrance of the Plant Area, they were once waste, carried in on a conveyor belt.
Now, transformed, they swim with a newfound vitality—it seems they’re eager to take you somewhere new.
